Yule High Day ritual

Saturday, December 17th, 2011

The Cottage, South Park

1:00pm

We have almost reached the longest night of the year. Soon, the sun will be returning to us and it is time to celebrate! Odin has and will continue to see us through the wasteland until the sun has returned. In the dark, he rides Sleipnir in the wild hunt. Tonight, we ask him to join us at the fire, to inspire us & tell us of the old ways. Tonight, we remember the traditions of our youth and of our ancestors. In keeping these traditions, we keep the way of our ancestors while keeping true to our own paths. In the future, we will pass these traditions, old and new, to the next generation.

Doors open to the public: 1pm

Father Yule arrives: 2pm

Ritual: 3pm, community feast afterwards

What to bring:

Praise offerings to Odin

Your favorite beverage (alcoholic or otherwise) and a glass/cup/mead horn for the sumbel

A dish to share for our community feast. In honor of our ancestors, family holiday favorites are encouraged.

While alcohol is permitted at this event, glass bottles and containers are not. If you choose to drink alcohol, please drink responsibly.

Sassafras Grove is collecting pajamas and bedtime storybooks for the Great Sprout Tuck-In Pajama program. The Pajama Program delivers new PJs and bedtime books to children in need nationwide, including those in or transitioning into foster care. More information can be found at: http://www.sproutonline.com/sprout/greattuckin/, including a link to an Amazon wish list if you would like ideas on sizes and styles. Please donate new pajamas (tags still attached) and/or new age-appropriate books, because every child deserves a good night.

The Cottage is located in South Park. If you’re approach the park from the northeast side via Rt 51, then simply follow Brownsville Rd to the County Fairgrounds. If you’re approaching from the northwest side of the park via Rt 88, then turn left onto Corrigan Dr and go through the park all the way past the tennis courts to the County Fairgrounds. Once at the old fairgrounds stadium and racetrack, turn onto Brownsville Rd just after the police station and drive down through the gap between the oval and the old museum hall. The Cottage will be ahead and slightly to the right. If using a GPS the coordinates of 40.303553, -79.997324 are a close approximation.

For more information, please email the grove at info@sassafrasgrove.org.

Our rites and events are free and open to the community, but we do rely on the donations of those who are able to defray the cost of space rental and supplies. Please remember, even a dollar can help make the difference between having our costs covered and the members having to pay them out of our own pockets. Support your local Druids!
